A parka

A Vexed Generation parka, bought from their shop on Berwick Street in the late 90s; a present from my then girlfriend.

It now seems hard to remember a time when hooded clothing wasn’t politicised; and this is clothing design as overt political statement - a backlash to the spread of CCTV cameras in the UK, and the wide-ranging powers of the 1994 Criminal Justice Bill.  When the hood is fully zipped, only your eyes are visible.

In troubled times, civil liberties can vanish in gusts of hysteria.  Right now there are governments making the covering of the face illegal. We must resist them.

Extremely apt sartorial post aside... again I must ask, what were you thinking?
